Dragon Search

Dragon Search definitely beats out Google’s voice-activated search app. Speak when prompted and it will present you with results not only from Google but Wikipedia, Twitter, YouTube, and even the iTunes Music Store. Just swipe across the top bar to go between search results… very handy.

Download it now in the AppStore while its FREE.

Here are some sample screenshots from my iPhone…

Dragon Search (AppStore, FREE)
PROS: search different outlets at once
CONS: none really
Verdict: GO GET IT!

Don’t Sleep

I’m not about to front it like I’m a music reviewer guru with extensive background on the matter… so I’m just going to plain out say that Sleeping Giant Music (SGM) mixtapes are worth checking out! Two thumbs up… 5 out of 5 music notes… two hands in the sky way high!

From 944 Magazine:

Sleeping Giant Music (SGM) and its Web site, Giantsarise.com, provide San Diegans with a central place to connect with local artists, music and events. “The underlying foundation of the company lies in our passion for music,” says Freddie Harb, better known by his fans as DJ Fresh One. Harb is one of the original founders of Sleeping Giant, the company he started four years ago with MC Blest and vocalist Oneson. Fellow DJ Mikey Beats now shares ownership duties of SGM with Fresh One, and they together are bridging the gap between the artist and consumer through Giantsarise.com.

Members of the Sleeping Giant community include DJs, singers, rappers and poets, and SGM focuses on pushing each artist to the next level of his or her career. “We want to maximize these artists’ potentials and help them grow into independent, competitve forces within their professions,” said Harb. The ever-expanding Sleeping Giant roster includes more than a dozen artists, each with their own page on the Giantsarise.com Web site. It’s a place where artists can promote their latest shows, offer a taste of their newest mixes or even spill their guts on the company blog.

I’ve been a fan for quite some time and you might have seen me mention SGM mixtapes in my tweets every now and then. In my personal experience, their mixes have provided me with an excellent soundtrack to my creative work/process. Crack open a Red Bull, open up some Adobe programs, double click on an SGM mixtape and I’m ready to bang out some websites and graphics haha.

The best part is all their mixes are FREE to download on their website (www.giantsarise.com) complete with dope artwork as well… a nice touch especially since I’m OCD with my iTunes haha.

The mixes are as colorful as the artwork… they got some oldies to take you back, classics to make you say “OHHH DAMN”, and artist tributes like Still Life’s “What’s My Motherfucking Name” (Jay-Z)… SOLID!

SIDENOTE: Now that I think about it… the name Freddie Harb sounds REALLY familiar… I think I might have went to elementary school with him! I’m 99% confident after seeing his picture. Yo Fresh One, Hardy Elementary?!

Zombie Love

Some quick reviews (less than 140 characters) of two movies I saw yesterday…

Zombieland
A bit hesitant with all the blood and gore but the movie is more of a comedy. Put me at ease. More laughs than OH SHIT moments. GO!

Capitalism: A Love Story
Love docs… especially investigative. Got mad at greedy people and the way “our system” works. Like all his movies, lit fire inside of me.

WhatsApp for iPhone

Having owned a couple Blackberrys in the past, one of the most known features besides their “real PUSH” email is BBM, short for BlackBerry Messenger. BBM is a “closed” chat app for BlackBerry phones meaning you can only chat amongst your fellow BB owners. Why not use AIM/text especially if you can contact anyone regardless of what phone they own??? Honestly, I don’t know what to tell you HAHA… BBM was just more fun and FAST.

Anyways… on to the meat of this post. The iPhone now has an app similar to BBM and its called WhatsApp. TK (Wildboyz/Victory) posted about it on his Facebook and my first reaction was “NO WAY!”. I downloaded it and its been pretty awesome.

Some of my screens… (“Let’s blog about it”… LOL)

This is a quality app through and through. Chatting is FAST and the app is very responsive. Adding friends is automatic as long as 1) they’re in your Contacts 2) they’ve installed WhatsApp. With Push Notifications, your iPhone friends can reach you 24/7. There is also Facebook Connect integration so anytime your status changes, it will post to your Wall.

You might be a bit weirded out at my excitement over a chat app but TRUST… BlackBerry owners swear by BBM. Its hard to explain… need to have used BBM before to understand kind of deal. iPhone users, go give this a whirl.

WhatsApp (AppStore, FREE)
PROS: really fast, clean interface, auto-add friends
CONS: lack of customization features
Rating: 9/10

UPDATE: App is now .99 cents as of 9/26.
